Abstract

Local culture-based mathematics learning can enhance students' awareness of the importance of environmental conservation. In this study, we developed an ethnomathematics learning model that uses "dakon sedotan" as a teaching aid made from recycled waste to improve the understanding of the concepts of Least Common Multiple (LCM) and Greatest Common Divisor (GCD). Dakon sedotan, a tool commonly used in traditional games, can be used as a means to motivate students and overcome boredom in learning mathematics. According to Wulandari and Permana (2020), ethnomathematics learning can help students understand mathematical concepts while simultaneously increasing their environmental awareness through the use of culturally-based teaching aids. Research by Handayani and Susanto (2019) shows that the use of traditional teaching aids such as dakon in mathematics learning can increase students' motivation and learning outcomes, as well as raise awareness of the importance of environmental conservation. Additionally, according to a study by Kurniawan and Widodo (2021), the implementation of an ethnomathematics learning model with recycled media can enhance students' understanding of mathematical concepts and foster an environmentally conscious attitude. The results of this study indicate that the ethnomathematics learning model using dakon sedotan can improve students' learning outcomes in the concepts of LCM and GCD. Furthermore, this model can also enhance students' awareness of the importance of environmental conservation and waste recycling. These results suggest that the integration of ethnomathematics in mathematics learning can be an effective strategy to improve student learning outcomes and awareness of environmental issues.
